What Difference Do It Make?: Stories of Hope and Healing

What Difference Do It Make?: Stories of Hope and Healing Review

What an enjoyable read this was. The follow-up to Ron Hall, Denver Moore, and Lynn Vincent's "Same Kind of Different as Me" is written in the same back-and-forth episodic storytelling manner as the first. I give this book four stars (four and a half if I could!) only because it pales slightly in comparison with the brilliance of the original.

First of all, the stories of healing, friendship, and volunteerism in "What Difference Do It Make" ("WDDIM") are stories independent from those in "SKoDaM," which focused mainly on the intersection of the three lives which comprise that book. You don't need to read SKoDam first, but I would still highly recommend that you do read that wonderful book, and reading it before WDDIM can't hurt. So if you haven't read the first book yet, I recommend you pop over to that page and buy it first... once you've read it, you'll definitely remember to come back to this page and read WDDIM.

In many ways, I was reminded of the 'deleted scenes' special features option on many of your favorite DVDs. You want more of the movie, and those scenes can add several minutes to the movie experience. You do get to see what happens to the "main characters" after the first book, but the difference here is that beyond the scope of their personal experiences, we get to see beyond into what was created from the inspirational, amazing occurances in the first book.

At 201 pages, this might be a book for many readers to ingest in one evening, and you may want to have the Kleenex nearby. I do recommend this book highly, but again, while it is not absolutely necessary, I recommend reading "Same Kind of Different as Me" first.
