House to House: An Epic Memoir of War Review
I have read first person accounts of war for nearly my entire reading life. Of all the books I have read, David Bellavia's "House to House" is the single most disturbing account of war that I have read. Many war memoires are written many years after the events and the authors have had plenty of time to ruminate on their experiences. These authors have had time to deal with their trauma and the result is a more nuanced account. "House to House" was written within two years of Bellavia's wartime experiences. The result is a book that is almost too honest and raw. War at its worst with all its brutality and horror is laid out for the reader. What Bellavia lacks in nuance he more than makes up for with intensity. My only hope is that in ten or twenty years, David Bellavia returns to his wartime experience and produces another book. It would be fascinating to see how a middle aged Bellavia tells this story. Highly recommended.

House to House: An Epic Memoir of War Overview
One of the great heroes of the Iraq War, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia captures the brutal action and raw intensity of leading his Third Platoon, Alpha Company, into a lethally choreographed kill zone: the booby-trapped, explosive-laden houses of Fallujah's militant insurgents. Bringing to searing life the terrifying intimacy of hand-to-hand infantry combat, this stunning war memoir features an indelibly drawn cast of characters, not all of whom would make it out of the city alive, as well as chilling accounts of Bellavia's singular courage: Entering one house alone, he used every weapon at his disposal in the fight of his life against America's most implacable enemy.
