Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (Dover Thrift Editions) Review
I ordered and read this book for my North Carolina History class. I can understand why my History teacher is requiring this read. It is a true story as told by a former slave girl. It has heart breaking and heart-warming moments. It is not written in a spiteful manner and describes very well what it was like being a slave. History class or not, I am glad I had the opportunity to read this first-hand account.
Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl (Dover Thrift Editions) Overview
This autobiographical account by a former slave is one of the few extant narratives written by a woman. Written and published in 1861, it delivers a powerful, unflinching portrayal of the brutality of slave life. Jacobs speaks frankly of her master's abuse and her eventual escape, in an amazing and inspirational account of one woman's dauntless spirit and faith.
